Tag Archives: sponsor a child now

When you choose to sponsor a child through Children Incorporated, your support goes exactly where it’s needed most — directly to the child you’re helping. In fact, over 85% of every dollar we receive goes straight to program services, and often even more. That means your monthly sponsorship is making a real, personal impact — not filtered through layers of red tape or spread across unrelated programs.

Your sponsored child receives those funds each month to meet immediate needs like food, clothing, and school supplies. And while we also work hard to support families and communities through our Special Funds and Projects, your sponsorship remains focused on the child you chose to help — and only that child. That’s our promise, and it’s a promise we’re proud to keep.

How we implement programs

Our program runs directly within the schools we are affiliated with, because of a dedicated team of volunteer coordinators. All of our coordinators are teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, school principals, or other childcare professionals. We have found that they are in the best position to meet the unique needs of each child. They interact with the children enrolled in our sponsorship program on a daily basis, and they observe firsthand the circumstances of each child’s life.

Working with volunteers allows us to keep our programs highly efficient. We benefit because we employ only a small number of paid staff members. This allows us to devote a higher percentage of our funds directly to the children enrolled in our program. Meanwhile, our volunteers benefit because our program helps them to improve the lives of the children in their care.

maintaining our transparency

We maintain transparency is by participating in independent charity rating platforms. These third-party organizations provide clear insight into how nonprofits manage their finances—highlighting income, expenses, fundraising costs, and how efficiently donations are used.

We know that for donors, this information is key. It shows them how much of their donations will be used to support charitable causes vs. what portion of them is dedicated to the charities’ operating expenses. Additionally, it lets donors know how financially stable and self-sustainable charities are. If an organization isn’t financially stable or transparent, there’s a risk that donations won’t reach those in need—making it all the more important to choose charities that are both effective and accountable.

Researching Charity Reputation

Look for reviews, ratings, and testimonials, and use resources like Charity Navigator or GuideStar. You can find out charity ratings below:

HOW ARE CHARITIES RATED?

Charity rating websites help people know which organizations they can trust. These independent groups look at how well a charity manages its money, how honest and open it is, and how much of each donation goes to helping others instead of covering overhead.

Information from charity rating organizations also tells donors how much of their donations will be used to support charitable causes and what portion of them will be dedicated to the charities’ operating expenses.

All non-profits are (and should be) held accountable by the IRS. They use tax forms and other public information to determine their authenticity — like how much a charity spends on programs, how stable their funding is, and whether or not charities make it easy for donors to find critical information about their operation. This helps you, as a donor, make sure your money is going to a good place.

Our sponsorship program is managed by our staff in our office and our 300 volunteer coordinators at our affiliated sites in 20 countries around the world. Our volunteer coordinators work closely with our sponsored children to ensure their particular needs are met and relay those needs to our sponsors.

Sometimes our sponsors chose a child based on age or location, or they chose a child who has been waiting the longest for a sponsor. The decision is yours. We work in 21 countries with children from ages 5-20 years old who are enrolled in schools worldwide. We would love to work with you to match you with a sponsored child that will give you both a meaningful relationship.

Ideally, a child is sponsored throughout their school years leading up to higher education or when they leave our sponsorship program between 18 and 20 years old. However, due to the transient state of many families and the difficult circumstances of the regions where they reside, we cannot always guarantee how long a child will remain enrolled in the Children Incorporated sponsorship program. However, we make every effort to provide services to children for as long as possible.

Sponsoring a child with Children Incorporated is a very simple process. You can sponsor a child in one of three ways: call our office at 1-800-538-5381 and speak with one of our staff members; email us at sponsorship@children-inc.org; or go online to our sponsorship portal, create an account, and search for a child that is available for sponsorship.

Then/otherwise, you may select your desired frequency for recurring sponsorship contributions (monthly, yearly, etc.), select or add a method of payment, and click “CHECK OUT”.

Congratulations! Once you have completed these steps, you will receive a confirmation email, and, within a few business days, you will also receive a sponsorship welcome packet containing additional details about your sponsored child or children!

DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR GIVING

Outside of sponsoring a child, we also have other ways in which you can donate to help children in need. Donations to our special funds help children, families, and communities in need by offering support beyond sponsorship, often due to unexpected emergencies. These funds include our Clothing Fund, Back to School Fund, Mosquito Net Fund, Hope In Action Fund, and Feeding Programs Fund.

You can also donate to our Special Projects, which allow our donors to support construction projects, expansion projects, community and school gardens, and other efforts to help improve our affiliated sites around the world. Throughout the year, our volunteer coordinators inform us about Special Projects at their particular sites. You can donate directly to these Special Projects online through our Hope In Action Fund. If you would like to receive additional information about our current Special Projects to make a donation to a particular type of project, please contact us today.

Situated in the northwestern corner of South America, Colombia is rich in natural beauty, comprising rugged Andean mountains, lowland plains, sprawling Amazon rainforest, and coastline on both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Archeological evidence suggests that humans have called this land home for thousands of years.

In Colombia, children’s very lives and futures are at risk, as they struggle with poverty and a lack of educational resources. Right now, children in Colombia need your help.

Its modern history begins at the end of the fifteenth century, when Christopher Columbus and the first Spanish explorers arrived in the region, subsequently establishing the area’s first successful Spanish settlement in 1508. Spanish colonization continued for over 400 years.

In the mid-nineteenth century, Colombia gained its independence and established itself as South America’s first constitutional government. However, political instability in the mid-to late-twentieth century led to the uprising of guerilla groups which have wreaked havoc through all manner of social injustice.

Tragically, their targets are most often children. Kidnappings, human trafficking, recruitment as soldiers into paramilitary groups, and forcible participation in drug-trafficking rings are all too common realities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children here.

Challenges for Children in Colombia

In Colombia, children’s very lives and futures are at risk, as they struggle with poverty and a lack of educational resources. Right now, children in Colombia need your help.

– Just over 34% of Colombians are living below the poverty line
– One in five children in Colombia has no access to education
– One in ten children in Colombia faces malnutrition
– Children living in poverty are at risk of experiencing child labor, homelessness, and food insecurity

Our Work in Colombia

Thanks to caring people like you, Children Incorporated has helped thousands of children living in poverty in Colombia since 1964.

We work with our volunteer coordinators in local communities to provide health and nutrition, education, hygiene items, clothes, shoes, and other essentials that help children and families rise above the poverty in which they live.

Our strategy is to focus on individual children through our sponsorship program, ensuring they are receiving exactly what they need on a regular basis.

Your support makes it possible for us to help children in crisis in Colombia.
