Stuart-Hobson Middle School is located in the Stanton Park neighborhood in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C., in close proximity to Capitol Hill in what is known as the “H Street Corridor.” The community has long been home to a variety of diverse families from different socio-economic backgrounds, including those living in abject poverty. According to staff at the school, students from low-income households are faced with the daily, stark realities of food insecurity and lack of basic resources in the home —which causes them to be disproportionally more absent than other students.
