Pursuing Dreams in San Miguel de Allende

Pursuing Dreams in San Miguel de Allende

Today we’re returning to Mexico (if only virtually) to follow along with Director of Foreign Programs Luis Bourdet’s accounts on how Children, Incorporated is making a difference in the lives of the children we serve. He recently visited the town of San Miguel de Allende and returned with this report.

San Miguel de Allende is a town located in the lower mountains in the state of Guanajuato.  This quiet, colonial town is home to about 90,000 locals, but it also has attracted about 10,000 retired foreigners that now make it their home.

It is wonderful to see Children, Incorporated providing support to children in need in San Miguel de Allende.  Our support goes to three homes for poor, neglected or abused children so they can have the care and education they need for a better life.  The children are very happy and friendly at the homes, and they are all quick to engage in conversation or share stories about the home environment.  They are being provided with a unique opportunity at these homes - they receive education, good nutrition, psychological care, great shelter and medical assistance as is the Children, Incorporated  mission.

Our program really provides hopes and opportunity for them, in addition to the educational component.  Success stories are the order of the day: for example, a girl who was academically challenged was able to pursue training as a beautician and is now in her final year of training, which will ultimately give her a better life.  Other girls now have big dreams and are quick to respond when asked what they would study. “I will be a pilot,” one responded.  “I want to be a doctor,” the other said.  “I want to be a teacher,” a third one shouted, but every one of them has in mind that education is what is going to make a difference in their lives.

You can make a difference by becoming a sponsor today, or, if you are already a sponsor, we urge you to consider supporting just one more. The need is so great not only in Mexico but around the world, and your $28 per month really does change the lives of the children we serve.
