Richmond, Va. – Children, Incorporated, an aid organization serving children in the U.S. and internationally, today announced the appointment of Marianne Vermeer as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer (CEO). A respected and accomplished executive, Vermeer brings more than 20 years of management consulting experience, corporate governance and non-profit leadership to Children, Incorporated. Vermeer succeeds Marian Cummins who devoted 39 years to Children, Incorporated working closely with the organization’s founder, Jeanne Clarke Wood, and steadily expanding the reach of the organization to 23 countries and serving 20,000 children annually.
“It’s an exciting time for Children, Incorporated as it looks to its 50th year of serving children and to finding new avenues for giving those children opportunities. I feel privileged to have the chance to lead the organization at this time and look forward to all that will entail,” said Vermeer.
“The challenge for me will be to match the commitment and passion Marian Cummins has had for this organization and the children it serves over the past 39 years. Children, Incorporated is a better organization for Marian’s dedication and service during those four decades. We wish her the best as she takes a much deserved retirement.”
Before joining Children, Incorporated, Vermeer worked as a Senior Fellow with the Acumen Fund, advising its portfolio companies in Asia and Africa on a variety of management challenges including strategic planning, turn-around management, process improvements, cash management and governance. Previously, Vermeer helped lead the turn-around of a newly-privatized university in Pakistan after 30 years of government control. Prior to that, Vermeer owned a management and strategic consulting group providing expertise to emerging companies and non-profit organizations. Vermeer holds an MBA degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
