Deb Joseph, our Volunteer Coordinator who operated a six-week summer camp in Kentucky recently sent me a bunch of pictures of children at the camp. As I looked through the pictures, I couldn’t help but smile. When we visited Deb to see how the summer camp was going, she told us about a young man named Sam, who she was particularly grateful participated in the camp. Sam is 13 years old and very shy. He had never really had a friend before, and this summer he made friends with another young man named Bill. Bill is 12 years old and he and Sam hit it off big time. They both love video games and they were both a little older than the other kids at camp. As I looked through the pictures, there was hardly a picture of one of them without the other. In the pictures they’re always smiling, goofing off and just having a great time. Deb said they were practically joined at the hip all summer long.
Sometimes, I think it’s the experience of having a safe place to make friends and learn that makes all the difference in a child’s life. A big thank you for all of our sponsors who contributed to Hope in Action and made this summer camp possible! I posted a picture of Sam and Bill above. Bill, by the way, is available for sponsorship!
