Children, Incorporated International Projects Manager Shaun Mabry just returned from two weeks in Costa Rica where he visited our five project sites there and established contacts for training at the recently-opened Bambu Market, Se Ska Iyi. Today’s final segment picks up in Bambu where our Hope in Action program is providing a unique opportunity not only for the children and families we serve there but for the entire Bambu community.
In addition to the Santa Luisa project, Children Incorporated recently financed the construction of a large organic market in Bambu. The Bambu Market was created in 2010 to create sustainable economic opportunities for the people of Bambu and the surrounding communities.
On Saturday, January 22, 2011, the Bambu Market held its third market day. Local venders sold organic produce, including fresh papaya, water apples, bananas, a variety of tubers, squash, smoked meats and other local products. Additionally, vendors sold crafts and homemade meals. Check out the sights and sounds at the market here:
Children, Incorporated is now working with partner organizations in Costa Rica to bring training workshops and grants to participants in the Bambu Market so that they can have viable micro-enterprises that enable them to live better lives.
