The Maggie Walker High School Model UN club recently hosted its fourteenth annual Governor’s School Model United Nations (GSMUN) Conference. Every year, the GSMUN conference staff chooses a charity to sponsor and this year through the recommendation of our intern, Aya Kellam, Children, Incorporated was selected. Aya was the Director of Specialized Agencies for GSMUN and helped to organize the conference, an exciting weekend of debate on global issues, diplomatic negotiations, and crisis simulations attended by over 400 students from the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan area. She worked with the conference’s Director of Charitable Giving, Cole Messersmith, in his fundraising efforts which included bake sales, T-shirt and sunglass sales, and candy grams. Through the efforts of the GSMUN staff and the delegates in attendance, the conference raised over $4000 for Children, Incorporated!Â
